In September, I hosted the RPG Blog Carnival, where I pitched the idea for bloggers to write about magic stones, crystals, or rocks in TTRPGs. I intended to get a wrap-up post up within the first day or two of the month, but it’s been a rough time here and it slipped away from me. So let’s get caught up.
Here’s a round-up of the submissions:
- Gnome Anne writes about Gnomestones, which is somehow dice, potatoes, and a fantasy world all at the same time.
- Christian Hendriks of Advantage on Arcana writes about The Natural Magic of Stones, exploring magic through the real-world properties of some common minerals.
- Dungeons and Possums writes about Ioun Stones, an iconic magic item from early editions of Dungeons and Dragons. While they still exist in modern D&D, their popularity has waned somewhat in recent years.
- VDonnut Valley explores the properties of jade and nephrite in the Forged in the Dark ecosystem.
- Empedocles shares a number of OSR-friendly magical stones with us from their blog Additional Treasures.
I love the various takes on the topic. Hopefully I haven’t missed anyone.
